   Monitor

This was a big point of debate between me, myself & I. I knew I didn't want the hassle of a real arcade monitor, but I couldn't decide between a TV and a Computer Monitor. I finally decided that I wanted this to be as flexible as possible. I ended up finding a used Hitachi 21" monitor on Ebay for under $300 (that included shipping). It weighs 85lbs and looks fantastic. I spray painted the front bezel black and put thick black weather stripping around the outer edge so that it would meet the glass with no light leakage from the marquee.

I was going to make it rotatable, but after reading Raza's MAME/JAMMA Arcade Cabinet web site, I decided it would be too much hassle. The games look great and I will be able to play regular high-res PC games on it as well. The one funny thing is that even though it is a 21" monitor, it looks dwarfed by the cabinet. Oh well.

UPDATE - 2/21/02
Ok, well I bought a 27" Quasar TV with an ATI XPERT2000 video card. I plugged everything in and it worked, but after MUCH tweaking and adjusting I decided to keep the 21" computer monitor. I just didn't like the quality of the TV. I know everyone like it because it is vintage and looks like the real thing, but I REALLY like my 21" computer monitor.
