Well, I have made a few updateds to The Doughcade and thought I would share what I have done.
Control Panel
I wasn't quite happy with the layout of my first control panel.
Cons:
- I found that angling the controls to the left and right was awkward
- The player 1 button should never have been on the right right of the cabinet
- Having a credit button on only one side proved difficult during "Continue" type games.
Changes:
I constructed a brand new control panel from scratch and I believe it is the BEST design for my needs.
- Replaced the Black Happ trackball with a translucent red trackball. I am lighting it with a small 12V lamp from Radio Shack. This thing is cool!
- Corrected joystick angling - made them straight on.
- Changed button layout a bit.
- Replaced the Happ Ultimate Joysticks with Happ Super Joysticks. MAN WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The Supers feel so superior to the Ultimates.
- Flipped the trackball and spinner. Proved to be more comfortable and I didn't slam my hand on the 4 way when playing an agressive game of Golden Tee.
- Added a credit button on the left side
- Put a friction hinge on so I wouldn't have to prop it up when working on the guts
Cabinet
Changes:
- I installed drink holders. How can I get my drink-on without some good flip-down drink holders? You can find the drink holders HERE
- Modified the amplifier to mount to the side of tha cabinet. I extended the volume knob to the outside so controlling the volume is now a snap.
